On Fulton St. with SSV

| | TrackBacks (0)

Hung out with my girl Sandra last night while she was selling that fierce CD of hers in the midst of all that beautiful art at 4W Circle of Art (704 Fulton Street) in Fort Greene. After that, we went to Brooklyn Moon Café to have dinner and conversate ... and Carlos called! So I called him back once I got on the platform for the A train at Lafayette, even though it was midnight. And I spoke to him today! "I-I-I-I'm looking for a brotha with MPH! enough to handle me ... got MPH! enough?"

Axum: On Hiatus

| | TrackBacks (0)

AXUM is on hiatus until December 12. It's truly a party that's been defined by the beautiful people who have blessed it by adding their presence to the mix. I'm very proud of that! Brother Andrew showed up with Michael and this box of cigarettes that looked like candy! All colorful and everything! I bet the FDA doesn't know about that! *LOL!* Anyway, WHY does a brother like fine-ass, thick-ass brother like Zun (who IS a REAL househead) show up the VERY night that I'm looking busted?!? Last night, I just threw on my Pomo Afro Homos T-shirt with some jeans. As Gordon would say, "Daily Maintenance!" As if I wasn't sexually frustrated enough! Zun brought Ronn along with him as well - they are indeed warm and beautiful brothers ...

Kind of a busy day today, but I've decided that I'm not going to go to any agency to spend 4 hours giving them my information if they don't currently have any assignments for me.

I know, I've mentioned wanting to do a Blue Lights In The Basement party a while back, but that just might happen in the next couple of weeks. Stay Tuned!

This City's Corners

| | TrackBacks (0)

This city sure has some corners to turn, doesn't it? I turned the corner of 54th and 8th today and ran into none other than Ms. Vinita Srivistava!!! We haven't seen each other in about 5 years! Well, I've seen her - she's been on the masthead of some cute rags, including VIBE and Savoy ...

Well, even with all the love, I was promenading down 54th Street to attend to business - specifically, to visit the Twin Towers Job Center (really the Dept. of Labor in sheep's clothing *rolls eyes*). Anyway, I'm trying to convince myself that it wasn't a complete waste of time, but the guy who was helping me with my case couldn't really find his way around the computer. That made all of his little jovial anecdotes irritating as hell, but he helped me the best he could.

Monday

| | TrackBacks (0)

Okay, this is a big update.

Monday
I tried to apply for Unemployment and was declared ineligible.

Tuesday
I went to go see a job counselor at the Dept. of Labor. I felt so comforted when I saw this Black lady with locks come out to help me. Ms. Green told me about Pier 94 - the Disaster Assistance Resource Center.

Wednesday
So early on that cold morning, as an official Victim of The Tragedy, I trudged along 54th Street until I got to 12th Avenue. Pier 94 houses many different agencies and most of them were unable to help me, but I did get some disaster relief from The Salvation Army. Great Day In Da Mornin'!!!

Strange Moment: Walking back down 54th Street and having Santa Claus cross my path dressed in a red Polo sweat suit.

I'm here in Maryland, enjoying Thanksgiving with my family. Lots of love and good eatin' here ...

As much as I know

| | TrackBacks (0)

As much as I know that something good is right around the corner and just beyond the bend, I'm really starting to get worried. So, I'm going to start the day with a smile and go from there ...

Well, I did meet a marvelous brother last night! Talk about potential husband! I just feel like my life is such a mess right now and is not compatible with That Love Interest, but Carlos feels the same way, too! So, we begin as friends and try to develop that. We were on the phone for an hour, just chit-chatting like we were old friends. He is very special and very beautiful - a very handsome dark chocolate Dominican brother. AND he's a Scorpio! Hmmmm! I wanted to run out in the street and shout "Honey, you STILL got it, boy! You STILL got it!"

Pre-Thanksgiving Shenanighans

| | TrackBacks (0)

We had our cute Pre-Thanksgiving shindig over at Bernard's house and it was cute! Of course I served my world-renowned candied yams - hmph, I might ask him to bring some back to New York! Mama Chip was in the house! It was so good to see him! The crowd was cute but I got zero play. Well, there were only two guys I wanted to talk to (out of about 20-25 - I like 'em THICK) but as the evening wore on, I saw reasons why perhaps I should reconsider those attractions. I'm glad that I know what I want, but it would be nice to get some semblance of what I want sometimes, too. I mean, I'm cute. I'm special. I'm huggable and kissable. I was looking good last night. I could hold my own in a conversation (EVEN a conversation that ain't about NOTHING!) ... *sigh*

Well, I did make a new CD last night before I went to Jersey that was really good, but really loud and distorted. I'll have to re-record it either today or tomorrow.

Axum: The After Work Happy Hour

| | TrackBacks (0)

AXUM is now an After Work Happy Hour, 7pm on Wednesdays. I'll try that a couple of times and if that doesn't work, then I'll try something new. This is a lot harder than I thought it would be, but not everyone understands house music. It's a spiritual thing, a body thing, a soul thing ...

Masters At Work

| | TrackBacks (0)

The two men who inspired me to move back to New York, "Little" Louie Vega and Kenny "Dope" Gonzales (a.k.a. Masters At Work) FINALLY have a new website ... and I've been spending a LOT of time on it. I'm listening to a mix from Louie right now - trying to pull up out of this sickness and congestion for tonight's extravaganza at AXUM. You know, I know that how I feel won't matter. All I have to do is show up and let nature take its course ...

Oh, Saturday was the day that I FINALLY got into Rachelle Ferrell's album "Individuality (Can I Be Me?)" while taking a sumptuous bath, and I absolutely love it! I must have tried listening to it like 5 times before that. Damn, my short attention span must be getting worse ...

Still Looking For Work

| | TrackBacks (0)

Okay, I've been up for the last couple of hours searching Monster.com for potential employment opportunities. I AM desperate for work, but the next job has to be right - and it has to be extremely compatible with my next education endeavor, the Media Studies program at The New School.

I've been playing two songs continuously ever since Khary brought them to me: Erykah Badu has given me a new favorite with "Today (Earth Song)" off of the Red Star Sounds CD and Ron Trent re-introduces me to my Piscean sister Amel Larrieux with the lush and deep remix of "Get Up" on the GiantStepRecords mix CD. Oh, "Elevation" on that CD is da bomb, too. It is the quintessential Blaze track ...

Khary, That Cutie

| | TrackBacks (0)

Last night, Gordon and I went to an Adodi workshop/potluck dinner at the Audre Lorde Project. It won't be the last time, either - it's always wonderful to be surrounded by potential husbands talking about their issues. Speaking of potential husband, Khary brought his iBook uptown and we worked it out. Zerosept was being all nosy trying to find out the particulars about our relationship when I don't even know yet! I want to be a good friend first, I mean, Khary is cute, intelligent, pensive, sexy as hell, but I don't feel the need to go there at the moment. I think we have a chance to be very good friends. Besides, I think that maybe I should consider that I might be hanging out with friends all the time just so I don't have to do the work involved with meeting new guys. That is resonating ...

An Evening With Punks

| | TrackBacks (0)

Punks was a breath of fresh air, even though there was way too much cream in the coffee. It's just wonderful to see us together packing up a REAL movie theater *grin!* It was a great ensemble cast and the writing was on point as well. I just have to remember not to go to West Hollywood anytime soon, right?

Afterwards, we went to Day-O where I was feeling very, well, Marcus, dressed in some jeans and a black Thundercats t-shirt. Severely underdressed and feeling kinda po' and unattractive. "Where is my love life? Where has it gone? Somebody please please tell me what the hell is wrong!" Shit, I need some lovin' ... Anyway, I DID run into Le Plus Grand Homme de Maquillage, Sam Fine! He's SO cute and so sweet! What a doll! I had to congratulate him on that Mary J. Blige cover for Essence - truly a Masterwork!

By the way, I'm experimenting with promoting my party using ONLY e-mail, so to get on my mailing list, e-mail axumnyc@yahoo.com.

For The Love Of You

| | TrackBacks (0)

I'm just tryin to love, you know what I'm sayin? That's my focus for doing Axum - I want to provide a place where we can grub, hang out, connect, chill, get our drink on and bounce to the beats. That's my determination. Who rolled up into the spot on my opening night? Lots of beautiful people including the Mack Diva Herself, Sandra St. Victor, the founder of Sista Factory, Sara Hill and my good friends Bernard, Philippe, Damian, Gordon, Ely, Julian, Ryan, Brian and Mike!!! I had such a good time and I just know that next week will be even better!
