This morning, I got the call I've been waiting for all week - I will soon be contracted by The Library of Congress to maintain portions of their gigantic website from my home here in Harlem! I can't even BEGIN to give my excitement the adequate words to describe how I'm feeling right now (but of course I'm going to try *grin*). I feel like laughing one moment and then crying another. I am SO happy!
But you know what? I've been happy, even throughout this very difficult time. I'm grateful for this blessing, true, but I know that this blessing only contributes to my happiness - it does not create it. Because my friends and family have sustained me since I lost my job due to 9/11. Because I realize that my life is not based on whether or not I can pay this month's rent. Because I realize that I'm dedicated to doing my best. Realizing those things make me happy ... and proud!
But it sure is nice to alleviate stressors - like bills and the customer service representatives associated with them! And it sure is nice to be able to afford stuff like dinner and printer paper and moisturizer! *grin!* More on that later ...
This opportunity helps me to change my life and to make further progress. Sam, I am fierce *grin!*, but I was fierce and unemployed - for a very long time. Thank you for making the difference, my brother. I do love you and I thank you and James for welcoming me into your lives so completely. *hug!* Okay, I'm going to get all teary-eyed if I don't move on ...
Today, I also became the Official Web Designer of Harmonica Sunbeam! We hooked up at Radio City Music Hall and stopped by French Connection to pick up a dress he'd been admiring. Honey, it was a hoot! They didn't have his size on the rack - but they had one draped on a mannequin. Well, Ms. Sunbeam proved that she was the ONLY lady because she did not listen to my suggestion that we drag that dress off that thing and take it to the counter to purchase! Such a fucking lady! *LOL!* Working with the man behind Harmonica has been SUCH a pleasure! This is a project that I've wanted to do for a while now ... so I stayed up in her face! I can see her coming offstage now: "Hey girl!" (Oh no, not HIM again! *rolls eyes*) "What's going on? Yeah, the website. Yeah, I'll call you." *LOL!* It paid off!!! And it is TRULY gonna get severe up in here!
After we parted, I made a pitstop at Office Depot (without ANY of the difficulty that Mike encountered - and I was in Times Square! Hmmmm ... *grin!*) and settled in for dinner at Zen Palate, which is ALWAYS wonderful.
