I first experienced Donnie in 1999 at In The Life Atlanta, the Black Pride event that happens there every Labor Day. At first I was like "Who is this chile trying to allude to Donny Hathaway?" Honey, then he opened his MOUTH! It was truly magic to hear to hear the descendant of not only Mr. Hathaway, but also Stevie Wonder (and Wonderlove - THOSE girls!) and Marvin Gaye in one set! When it was all over, I was one of the children clamoring for coins to purchase his debut EP 1st Impression (wish I could tell you where to get it *sigh!*) and have been hooked ever since!
Now, he's found his way to New York City, to Giant Step Records and to DJ Ron Trent and I expect nothing but good things! I just missed his recent performance at S.O.B.'s (him and Rachelle Ferrell *sigh*), but I know he'll be back after these London dates. He's definitely the man to look out for!
