Study your craft.Anzi is derived from the Swahili word aenzi, which can mean power, sovereignty and dominion, among other things. For me, Anzi means strength (just look at all that strong, nappy hair!); what's ironic is that I created this name for myself (and, later, my business) at a time when I felt like I had very little. By the way, Donald is a Celtic name which means "world ruler" ... sounds a bit egomaniacal, but who better to rule the world than someone powerful with strong nappy hair? *grin!*

Now, I'm a successful web designer. I'm proud of my craft, but it is time to develop it even further with education. It is time to strengthen what Anzidesign means by refining the entire gamut of my design skills. It's time to get Anzi's weight up!

I have often been a victim of what Oprah calls "the disease to please" - saying "yes" when I really want to say "no" (and sometimes when I really want to say "Hell, no!"). I do it because I don't want to hurt people's feelings and I don't want to be seen as unfriendly or disagreeable, but I've learned I'm learning how to decline invitations and proposals, how to limit external (and internal) negative influences and how not to agree just for agreement sake. I have learned that saying no to someone else can mean saying yes to myself.

5 Gifts to Myself: Body

I haven't talked as much about it this time (certainly not like the last time), I have been up in the gym, working my body out 6 days a week. So far I've had more ups than downs and I'm really happy with my progress.

But the gift of body transcends how often I work out. Yes, I want to look better, get stronger and do more capoeira *grin!* - trudat - but I'm really creating a healthy lifestyle and I can maintain for the rest of my life.

5 Gifts to Myself: Home

A brownstone across the streetOprah is the inspiration for this entry. Check out this month's issue of O, The Oprah Magazine; this month's theme is Home. Darrell and I watched a bit of Oprah on Monday as she generously bestowed her audience with all of her favorite things this year. I know when Darrell saw that Kiehl's Limited Edition Gift Box come across the table, he could've just spit!!! *LOL!*

But my list is a little different. These are five lavish gifts that I'm giving to myself. My first gift is home.

I'm not blogging like I used to ... maybe it's time to do the trendy thing and take a break? I want to redesign it anyway, but now I have other important things to focus on ...

Hmmmm, a hiatus make be just the thing I need.

Tonight, I set foot upon my old stomping grounds in Fort Greene for photojournalist Sean Drakes' opening night of his photo exhibit, Mas: A Theater of The Streets, at Long Island University's Salena Gallery - complete with soca DJ! Mas will be shown from now until December 15, so stop by before you get that Junior's cheesecake. If, like me, you've never been to Trinidad's Carnival, this show will make you book a flight! Don't miss it!

I missed Alias on Sunday. Yeah, that's the one out of two television shows that I watch regularly. I was wondering what was going on - a football game seemed to preempt my show, but all the while my TV was turned to the wrong channel! I'm almost too embarassed to even admit that!

Burnin' Up!

After another fierce capoeira session this afternoon, I weighed myself (something I try never to do) and discovered that I've lost 10 pounds since I returned to the gym in September! Yay!
