5 Gifts to Myself: Body

I haven't talked as much about it this time (certainly not like the last time), I have been up in the gym, working my body out 6 days a week. So far I've had more ups than downs and I'm really happy with my progress.

But the gift of body transcends how often I work out. Yes, I want to look better, get stronger and do more capoeira *grin!* - trudat - but I'm really creating a healthy lifestyle and I can maintain for the rest of my life.

Committing to health and fitness
When I became employed again, one of the first things I did was rejoin my local New York Sports Club. In general they're really unremarkable, but they do have a lot of locations (in New York, Washington D.C., Philadelphia and *shudders* Boston), they have Tony - a wonderful personal trainer and, most importantly, they have Edna Lima's Capoeira Workout. It had been over a year since I worked out, and I couldn't wait to get back.

And I'm doing pretty good, but I have my moments. Once I was in the sauna with an acquaintance whose tight abs just seemed to go all the way down to his dick! And I looked at mine, firming up nicely but underneath a shrinking-but-persistent layer of fat that spreads out from my abs to the sides, down and around my pubic area to my inner thighs and ass. Months of hard work reduced to utter futility in a matter of seconds. Victimized by the very reason I hate gym culture; I'd fallen right into the trap.

I was okay the next morning after I spoke to a friend and really thought about it - and what I'd accomplished. (Trying on cute clothes helped, too!) I've worked hard (and smart) and I'm quite satisfied with my results. I look and feel fantastic - and I've changed my life. Other people have bodies that are tighter, more fit, more muscular and more attractive to other people (and myself) ... but I have this body. And I'm working it out!
