I'll Make Believe It Came From You

Dearest Donald,

Hey love, what's going on? How are you doing? I hope this letter finds you in the best of spirits and in good health. Although you and I both know better.

Honey, I just want you to know that now is the time to get your act together, for real. I see you've been making these abortive attempts at getting it together, but now's the time for the real thing. Yes, the weather is fucked up right now (and will remain that way for at least a couple of days), but you need to overcome that. No, this gloomy weather hasn't helped matters much, but don't sit there and act like you're powerless - DO SOMETHING! Drink some orange juice, pretty up your blog a bit more, spin some house music, write some letters - yeah, write something!

You should be writing more now. Because obviously knowing how to write is not enough. Yeah, it's love to see your friends and family enjoy your words, but you need them yourself. What about that piece you were going to write about 14th Street? Honey, you know you need to write that. And that e-mail you wrote about Chris, yeah, you can work on that, too. And yeah, hip-hop IS the greatest failure of 20th century Black culture, so read up on that. Listen and read. You know you can turn that shit OUT!

Honey, the sun will come out tomorrow. Knowing this might get you to turn your feet back towards the gym. Honey, it's April - don't let May's 80-degree weather catch you off guard! You'll feel and look better for it. Plus, all those incentive wardrobe pieces you've acquired? See, don't make me come for you! Because you'll be the first one to talk about how desirable you're not and how nobody wants you ... so I say take a break from that! Just concentrate of feeling great and looking great. Fuck those bitches! Keep taking care of yourself and it won't matter whose attention you're not getting! Okay, I know you're giving me that look, but it's true.

Besides, I don't know who you expect to be up in your grill when you never leave your house. Who, the mailman? Honey, this man you want is not going to fall through the roof. That's why I'm not sure about this working-at-home thing. Isolation historically has not been a good thing for you. At least when you go to the gym, you get out of the house regularly. No, going to the local bodega for Doritos, Little Debbies and 50¢ sodas does NOT count. Anyway, you are NOT a Tropical Fantasy kinda girl anyway, you're a Lorina Sparkling French Berry Lemonade mademoiselle!

So, I've given you some things to think about ... and do! Honey, I want nothing but the best for you. You still can do whatever it is your heart desires, but it's up to you to realize those desires, honey. *hug!* So, go get some sleep now and collect some more dreams - you have a big day ahead of you.

My sweetest Donald-Pop. What a wonderful entry. I know it was meant for [you]. But, I needed that kick in the pants.

All gloom does is beget more gloom. And I’m sick of it, I tell ya. I am going to get my act together, I am going to leave the house, I am going to write something substantial. And don’t hate me later when you see I’ve become more fabulous than you. wink

Now that is inspiration for all of us. Thank you for sharing!

you sure you didn’t write that for me?

Have you been evesdropping on my thoughts? I could/should have said that to myself.

This is what you call group thought! I’ve been stressing the same things for myself. Now only if I could follow your lead and write more and do more and stop being so damn gloomy.
