I hadn't planned on leaving the house on Saturday, but Philippe coaxed me out to hang out at Dance Theatre of Harlem's Annual Street Festival. I didn't even know it existed - and they've been doing it for 31 years! By the time I got there, I'd missed a couple of performances from the school, but I did catch some ...

Laveen Naidu, Director of the Dance Theatre of Harlem School; No, I do not remember the names of any of these pieces, er, numbers.

Lots of people braved the weather (it looked like it would rain at any minute, but it didn't) for this event. Based on the chatter of the little girls sitting behind us, this festival is obviously something that this community looks forward to every year.

Sheila Anderson, the hostess with the mostest. She also hosts WBGO's Sunday Morning Harmony and Manhattan Neighborhood Network's The Art of Jazz; another face in the crowd: writer Malcolm Venable

Damn you, Donald! I live right around the corner, and you didn’t come and get me.

They’ve had that street festival for how many years? Who knew!

i didn’t even know this existed and i live like 2 blocks from there. sadly i spent my saturday with the boob tube.

You really hooked us up with that. I love when there’s nothing to do on the weekend and you suddenly discover that there are cultural events going on!

Your friend with the neice is a cutie-pie.

Umm, I love culture …

How many years?! Well, it’s not like I actually like the DTH. Alvin Ailey gets my vote. But I would have liked to enjoy the event. Esp. the last part. ;-)

blowing kisses of appreciation
