I love blogging. I really love having my very own forum to say whatever's on my mind, whatever's weighing on my heart. I love the whole process - writing, editing, finding relevant links, maybe even serving up a cute picture or two. I love it and I'm pretty damn good at it, unless of course you count frequency as the standard. Then I suck.
I said going in that this was not going to be one of those marathon blogs - 15 paragraphs with every other phrase hyperlinked. Sure, that's a big way for me to share info with y'all out there, but I'm just saying "Hey" - and that's okay. Lately, I've been really disconnected from my friends in the blogosphere, so here I am. No links. Just letting you know how I'm doing.
My home improvement project has reached a head, I think. Well, I'm about to run out of money, so it better! Hmmm, you're typing this just before you head off to IKEA. AGAIN! One thing I can tell you - I have succeeded in making my apartment work for me. It is (or is becoming) my home, my office, my lounge, my club, my playground, my spa ... It's always felt peaceful here, even in my more chaotic phases, but I'm taking advantage of greater sense of presence (and trying not to procrastinate myself through it, either). Riding it like an unlimited Metrocard. Pictures will probably see the light of day very soon.
Pictures, pictures ... what a wonderful segue to this: yesterday I upgraded to Movable Type 3.11. What does that mean? Many things, many things. Most importantly, it means that this space will be changing very soon.
When? Look, HEFFA, I said "Very soon!" *clenched-tooth smile!*
There's a lot to change, especially with my pictures. I still don't know how I'm going to deal with them; I need a solution and I was hoping that Six Apart would add some fierce photo-specific features. Afraid that's not the case with the new version of MT, but it's okay: I'm realizing that there are so many ways of doing this thing, you know, incorporating pictures (or any type of media) into your blog. Different people have different needs. Some people just want to show a picture once, as big as they can, then archive it forever. Some people want to protect their photos by presenting them with Flash. Some people want to feature albums of pictures. Here's want I want: to upload my pictures by albums and to be able to use individual pictures elsewhere in my blog. I want to be able to index both by date and by content. Again, I don't really know how I'm going to do this yet, but writing this has helped to think it out.
Okay, signing out, but before I let go:
- I ran into ex-crush/doppelganger Omar Wasow earlier this week on my way from Home Depot. Yes, AGAIN *rolls eyes* He was biking (as I glanced down at his yellow bike, I thought for a brief moment, "That must be how he stays in shape.") and had just turned the corner at 7th and 23rd. We talked for a few minutes, mostly about our past in Fort Greene and connecting it to Harlem today. It felt like some healing was taking place, and that felt good.
- Can someone tell me why Angels in America has only one Black person in its cast? So reflective of our collective American denial regarding HIV/AIDS and race ... and sexuality, but okay, I've only seen the first half. And it's overwhelmingly and remarkably beautiful ...
- You can download the first presidential and the vice-presidential debates for free at the iTunes Music Store. Along with my guilty pleasure ...
- While you're preparing to vote for our next president, check out Showtime's American Candidate. I'll be voting Lazu/Boykin.
- You owe it to yourself to go see this Sylvester tribute concert tonight; it's part of New York University's two-day symposium on his life and relevance as an artist.

when my bloglines goes off and says you’ve posted. well, it just makes my heart swell.
let’s see…. waits for you to implement Typekey on your site i’m loving 3.11, but what really thrills me is being able to post in the future which is what i’ve started doing. keeps me posting without having to worry about being regular.
just say no to Destiny’s Child…desecrating my iTunes like that! i loved Mr. Wright before AiA, and i like him even more after that.
i’m sure you’ll post your review on the Sylvester concert right? blinks
alright, so i’m assuming that my comments need to be approved before being allowed on your site, because it doesn’t show up automatically. didn’t get prompted for Typekey here or on your archived entry (which is what Bloglines automatically points us to). this comment will also dissapear once i click on Aiight, but i know it’s out there in the blogosphere….
…all of these issues can be resolved by this link however. blinks, smiles, looks at Sylvester and grabs crotch in protest
waves @ Anzi
Don’t let the color of the AIA cast detract you from a great adaptation. here may only be one black character but he has some of the best lines.
