I wake up to ask,
"But will he ever find me?"
Slurring all the words.
Men have wandered Earth
In wonder, for completion.
They lived and they died.
I curl at the edge.
But will I ever find him?
I'm watching the sea ...
Tonight I got off from work, came home and rested a bit before hitting the streets. I was on my way to take some pictures over at the Harlem Meer when I ran into my friend and neighbor Harold.
A couple of weeks ago now, he was burned out of his apartment.
There's a benefit happening for him tomorrow between 3pm and 7pm at Heaven. No, silly, it's too late/early for melodramatics; I'm talking about Club Heaven in Chelsea. If you can, please drop by. We'll be glad to see you!
And for those of you wondering, "Gee, I can't go to Heaven (for whatever reason). Is there a way that I can help right now?" Why, of course there is!
me: See, it's easy to open.
customer: Well, you sold me on this one. You're right, it's hard and solid. *fumbles* How does this go in?
me: Here, let me show you. *takes it in my hands* There.
customer: Ahhh, once that goes there ...
me: ... yeah, then you put that there ...
customer: ... oh, great! It's feels really sturdy.
me: But that looks kinda loose, though. This one fits larger sizes, too, so let's try one of the inserts.
customer: That's why I figure I'd let an expert help me, while I'm here.
me: Try the small or medium one. If it's too big, we can take it out and try another.
customer: *inserts the medium-sized one and snaps it shut* Perfect! And what's this?
me: It helps keep your laptop cool.
customer: Yeah, it gets pretty hot in my lap ... oh, it swivels!
me: Yes, it certainly does ...
This heat is kicking our tails. I love it hot, but God damn, it's hot! It's burnin' up shit and taxing my electronics. And we are exhausted. Rashawn Brazell's murder and the subsequent lull of details about the story might have something to do with that, but I look around and see people hard at work creating their realities. That's already enough to make anyone sit down and take a breath. But sometimes, it's not even about all that. Sometimes you just want to do something else, unapologetically. So, especially you two, I hope life gives you some more of what you're looking for in those other spaces away from blogging.
As for me, like Kenyon said: "I am just gonna post all my shit on my blog." I'm going to contextualize that my own way with some pictures and words that may have some kind of meaning. Then again, they may not. Pardon me while I get instinctual ...
I noticed on the way home today how beautifully dark green the trees were. Walking past the LIRR, I imagined more of them, waiting somewhere. I really don't know why I let myself get overwhelmed with so much stuff, obligating myself to do so much, but today I think I figured something out. Yeah, I need a break - that's a given. A good, long break where I don't have to worry about anything, no doctors, no servers. Nothing. I am going to create that for myself. As I type this, I know it's not really the work, especially if it's stuff that I enjoy. However, I do see a trend in stuff not getting done - it's me not giving myself what I need.
Back in 1997, Yellow Box (the precursor to Mac OS X which cobbled NeXT's Openstep with Display Postscript - now called Quartz) ran on both PowerPC and Intel computers. Why is this recent announcement such a surprise?
How does Mac OS X on Intel relate to iPod, iSight and Airport - Apple's other seemingly-non-processor-specific technologies? True, iSight only works with iChat AV right now, but something tells me ...
What's to stop Apple from lording over Intel's manufacturing process to get their own specific chip that works the with as-yet-to-be-determined technologies lingering in Leopard?
Apple sells a platform - a system of hardware and software technologies working together seamlessly and, for the most part, anchored by world-class design. I think that's the bottom line and Apple is never going to give that up. They want to sell the entire solution. And we are used to paying a premium for that platform because we want it all to work and to look good doing it.
